Quantity Surveyor for Tanzania


We urgently hiring Quantity Surveyor having 6-5+years experience in Road construction business for Tanzania, Africa location Job Summary: The Quantity Surveyor (QS) will play a critical role in managing and overseeing all cost-related aspects of construction projects. The QS will be responsible for cost estimation, budgeting, procurement, contract administration, and ensuring financial efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires a meticulous approach to ensure project costs align with budget constraints and company standards. Key Responsibilities: Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing specifications, drawings, and scope of work. Evaluate materials, labor, equipment, and other resource requirements. Budgeting: Develop and manage budgets for construction projects. Ensure financial viability by accounting for all cost factors. Tendering and Procurement: Prepare tender documents and manage the bidding process. Evaluate contractor and supplier bids and recommend the best options based on cost, quality, and suitability. Contract Administration: Develop and manage contracts between clients and contractors. Administer contract changes, variations, and claims while ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. Contract Approval and Payment Protocol: Obtain explicit, written approval for all contracts and pricing arrangements from the Managing Director after consultations with the Project Engineer. Ensure alignment with quality standards, project timelines, and financial prudence. Timely Production of Certificates: Prepare and issue payment certificates promptly to support seamless project implementation. Communicate any discrepancies impacting certificate issuance to the Managing Director in writing. Address challenges proactively to prevent delays in payment certificate issuance. Value Engineering: Identify cost-optimization opportunities without compromising quality. Suggest alternative materials, methods, or design changes to achieve objectives more economically. Cost Control: Monitor and control project costs continuously. Track expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide regular expenditure reports. Risk Management: Identify and assess risks impacting project costs or timelines. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and maintain stakeholder communication. Progress Reporting: Provide regular financial status reports to the Managing Director. Highlight significant budget deviations and their underlying reasons. Documentation: Maintain accurate records and reports, including tender reports, cost trackers, project reports, and final accounts. Measurement and Quantification: Accurately measure and quantify construction work to facilitate payment assessments, progress tracking, and material ordering. Final Account Settlement: Ensure all project costs are recorded and accounted for during final account settlement with contractors and stakeholders. Dispute Resolution: Address disputes or discrepancies related to costs, quantities, or variations. Provide expert advice and assistance to resolve conflicts. Collaboration: Work with architects, engineers, and other professionals to align project goals with financial objectives. Benchmarking: Use historical project data and industry benchmarks to guide cost estimates and evaluate performance. Sustainability Considerations: Incorporate sustainability aspects, such as energy-efficient materials and methods, into cost assessments. Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in all cost-related activities. Continual Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, new construction methods, and cost-saving techniques to enhance expertise. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields: Quantity Surveying Construction Management Civil Engineering Architecture Related disciplines in construction or built environment. Professional Accreditation: Membership or accreditation with professional bodies such as: RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building). Skills and Competencies: Strong analytical and numerical skills. Proficiency in cost estimation and budgeting tools. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. In-depth knowledge of construction contracts and procurement processes. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Familiarity with sustainability and risk management principles.
